Electronic Calendar

An Electronic Calendar is a digital form of a calendar.  There are many formats available such as Now Up-to Date and Contact, Novell Groupwise, Netscape Communicator, Contact Office, and Google Calendar.

I chose to use the Google Calendar.  It is very user friendly.  From the Google search window you choose “more” at the top and drop down to “Calendar.”  You will be asked to set up an account. Once you have done so, you simply click on the date and add an event.  Editing your events is equally as easy.  You simply double click on the event and choose to edit the information.  You can edit the length of the event and any details associated with it.  You can set it up to send you email or pop-up reminders of the event if you like as well.  With respect to sharing, you can set up to whom events are visible and editable so the calendar is as secure as you wish it to be.  Google has an excellent “Help” menu complete with a list of issues that the calendar is known to have.  I have focused on its use at a personal level while I became acquainted with it.  I have used it to keep track of everything from Soccer games to when the moving truck would arrive.  I also selected to have the four day weather forecast displayed so that I can plan accordingly.

Month View:

While this view does give the big picture of the month, I do not find this view the most useful.  I would like to be able to see each activity rather than the sum total of activities for the day.

Week View:

I like this view from the initial organizational point of view.  It helps me see what is going on each day of the week and plan ahead.

Agenda View:

This is the view I find most useful.  It helps me plan my movements each day.
