Tips for overcoming Testing Anxiety
The most effective way to overcome test anxiety is to completely prepare for the test by studying ( see Study Skills ). However, if you have studied properly and still find yourself overwhelmed or extremely anxious when it comes time to take the test, follow the below ideas:
Confronting and Handling Test Anxiety:
Just take one step at a time.
No negative or panicky self-statements.
Try not to worry; worrying won't help anything.
Don't think about fear; just think about what you have to do.
Relax; remember YOU ARE IN CONTROL. Take a slow, deep breath
You should expect some anxiety; it is a natural reaction and will motivate you to perform your best!
When the fear comes, push the pause button. Take deep breaths and give yourself time to refocus.
Keep the focus on the present; What is it you have to do?
Use reinforcing Self-Statements: "I can do it." "I work hard and do my best." " I studied and know this material!"
Don't Let Test Anxiety get the best of you!
