Grading System for General Music at Newport Elementary School

2007/2008

This year to better evaluate students, I will go on a point grading system.  A student that participates and is well behaved in class will receive (20 pts).  If a student has one infraction during class they will (Drop from S+ to S), after two infractions they will receive  (5pts for the day), any other infractions will result in a (0) for the day.  Absences will count as if the child is in class (+20pts) Class absences will also count as (+20pts).

Grading

These grade points will be added and placed in a scale for the final grade for the 9 weeks.  Contact with the parent will be made if the student starts to get near the Needs improvement marker.

Old Grading system had to be modified ( Due to NC Wise Conversion) 

New Grading System:

Outstanding (now S+) = 180-170

Satisfactory (S)= 165-130

Satisfactory (S-) = 125-110

Needs Improvement (N)= 46-90

Unsatisfactory (U) = 0-45

Policy on make-up work:

A student may make up any test or quiz given during the student’s absence, but no class work can be made up.

Holding Students responsible for grades:

Students who are having troubles in my class will have their parents notified before a (N) is given so that the student might redeem himself to an (S).
