What is a school counselor?

A school counselor is a person that has a master's degree in school based
counseling. They help students with personal, social, emotional and
educational growth. School counselors also work with parents and teachers to
aid students in becoming the best they can be.

How can someone see the counselor?

Students may request a time by telling their teacher, who will contact the
counselor directly, or by placing a note in the counselor's mailbox. The
mailbox is located by the main office.

Will the counselor tell someone else about a problem?

Only if the person is being hurt or is threatening to hurt someone else.
This is called "duty to warn".

Can parents meet with the counselor?

They may call their child's counselor directly at school to speak with them
or to schedule an appointment. Mrs. Banks works with grades K, 2, 4.
Mrs. Montuori works with grades PreK, 1, 3, 5.

What else does the counselor do at school?

The counselors are in charge of many things. They do individual counseling,
group counseling, organize the Good Citizen Program and all statewide and
district testing for the school.
