Our units of study this year will include:  building number sense, collecting and sorting data, geometry, addition and subtraction, measurement, telling time, using a calendar

How can I help my child at home?

• Practice counting items to 99, writing the numerals, and matching numerals to number sets.
• Work with your child on combining two sets to add such as 2 and 7 make 9. We will be working on addition problems to 20.
• Work with your child on recognizing number representations such as the 5 dots arrangement for 5 like on dominos.
• Work with your child on taking sets apart as in 7 take away 2 is 5. We will also be working on subtraction problems from 20.
• Practice sorting items - this can be as simple as helping to sort the laundry or groceries and expressing a reason for sorting that way.
• Searching for and making patterns.
• Recognizing shapes, and using the shapes to make larger pictures.
• Telling time to the hour and 1/2 hour and reading a calendar.
