* Words are ordered alphabetically according to grade level. Most students come to first grade knowing many of the words on the PP1 and PP2 lists. By the end of first grade, students are expected to be able to read the words on all six lists. This is the same list of words that your child's classroom teacher is using. True sight vocabulary recognition means instant recognition of words (within 5 seconds), which makes the process of reading more automatic.
Learning to master sight vocabulary takes much drill and practice. Work with your child each night on the words in his/her word bag that do not yet have checks from me. Use the extra day(s) on weekends to review all cards. If your child does not yet have a bag of sight words, start with the lists above, studying no more than 5 a week. Thanks for your help. Knowing many sight words will greatly improve your child's reading.
