Question 1:  What is Carteret County's timeline for implementing NC WISE?

Answer:  There are several phases we have to go through to implement NC WISE.  We are presently in the Pre-Deployment phase.  Scroll down to view the different phases, description and approximate date of implementation.

Phase Description Approximate Date
of Implementation
Application Phase Application Phase means the LEA is formally requesting implementation of NC WISE. Completed 2004
Pre-Deployment Pre-Deployment means that the LEA is internally assessing its readiness for NC WISE deployment. "Data cleansing"  (Getting current SIMS data in a format that will properly convert into NC WISE) Present
Deployment Phase 1 Conversion The data conversion effort during deployment takes into account data analysis issues, data mapping, data migration, mitigation strategies, and possible manual data conversion processes to ensure that the required data is loaded into eSIS correctly for each school. DPI will release the exact date of conversion sometime in May 2006
Deployment Phase 2
Train the Trainer
Train-the-Trainer sessions are divided into the following three categories:
  1. Getting Started – Topics required for getting the school started and supporting daily operations
  2. First Reporting Period – Topics required to produce and distribute the NC Report Card
  3. End-of-Year Processes – Topics required to prepare for the fiscal end of the school year

Post-Deployment Being in post-deployment means the LEA has completed the deployment activities and is live on NC WISE.  The district is self-sufficient and dependent on the NC WISE environment for student and school management.
