Frequently Asked Questions
How is the
best way to contact you?
Feel free
to email me at
sweinhold@mms.carteret.k12.nc.us or call the school at 726-1126. I
prefer email – it is faster, easier and more convenient.
How are
averages calculated?
Grades
are classified as either, classwork, homework, tests or quizzes.
Each category counts 25% of the average. To find your overall
grade average, calculate each category average, add the averages
together and divide by 4.
How often
can I find out my average?
You can
ask at any time to see your average – if I am not teaching or otherwise
busy I will be glad to show it to you.
What
does a "Cumulative Test" mean?
Most test I give
are cumulative - that means the tests cover everything from the
beginning of the year up to the time of the test. This helps to
keep all skills fresh on the minds of the students. It also helps
better prepare students for the End of Grade test.
Is Extra
Credit available?
Extra
credit is offered on most tests and in various other classroom
activities throughout the year. Extra credit is not offered otherwise.
How does
Homework affect my grade?
Students
start each Nine Weeks with a 100 Homework grade. Each time HW is not
completed or you do not “Show Your Work”, 1 point is deducted (and you
do not get a stamp for that day).. Homework
that is graded as an individual grade is announced when assigned.
How does
late work affect my grade?
Late work
is accepted according to the MCMS Handbook guidelines. Work that is
accepted after the due date will receive a minimum of a 10 point
deduction. In most cases, late work is only accepted during the week
that it is originally due.
How
do I get my make-up work when I am absent and how do I complete test
missed during an excused absence?
Often times
students can check the website and find all missed work listed. If
not, upon returning check the make-up work bin and/or ask Mrs. Weinhold
for any missed work. Missed work from an excused absence should be
turned in within 3 days after the absence (see Student Handbook for more
detailed information on this school-wide policy). Tests or other
activities that require teacher guidance are to be made up
after school following the absence.
Please be aware that although I try to remind students to turn in
make-up work - it is ultimately the responsibility of the student to
take care of this.
How do I
get extra help in Math?
After school help is
available upon request, during academic coaching and other
opportunities are being
worked on now.
What is
your behavior program?
I
support a Positive Behavior Program which includes the following rules:
Be respectful, Be responsible and Be Safe? Students are asked 3
questions when behaving inappropriately: What are you doing?
What should you be doing? Can you show me what it
looks like? Consequences for misbehavior are: notes in the planner, email to
parents, a phone call home, parent conferences, letters in the mail
and/or Choices referral.
If a
student continually misbehaves and receives 3 strikes (times being
corrected) in one class, students are sent to Choices. Repeated
misbehavior or infractions outlined in the Handbook result in an
immediate Choices referral. The Positive Behavior Program is followed by
all Sailfish Teachers.
When can I check out a library book?
Students go to the library with the Language Arts teacher.
Students should check out 2 library books at this time. Students are also allowed to go to the
library during Academic Coaching with the permission of the Academic
Coaching Teacher.
Often time if a teacher has extra time in a class period or a student
finishes work early - he/she may allow a student to make a quick library
trip then.
