ACTIVITY DESCRIPTIONS

#1 – PREDICT -        Write a short, fictional story about how your life would be different if the U.S. government was overthrown and a Fascist military dictator seized power. As a minimum, your story should include the effect of this change on your school, family, and leisure time activities. (250 word minimum)

#2 – TRACE -            Research China’s history.  Draw a timeline that shows the three forms of government China has had since 1900. Write a paragraph for each type that includes details such as dates, key people involved, background issues, and consequences of changes.

#3 – CREATE -          Either draw or use the Inspiration program to create a chart that shows how decisions are made and/or how power is shared in either a constitutional monarchy or a federal democracy.  Minimum size 8 ½ x 11 inches.

#4 – GRAPH -            Gather data on either the countries we study in Asia or Africa using World Geograph. You may hand copy or just print the report you create. Then, using an appropriate type of graph, either use a            spreadsheet program or hand draw a graph to present the information. The graph should have a title and labels.

#5 – CONSTRUCT - In the form of a collage or montage, construct a poster that depicts what you consider to be the most important characteristics of four    different forms of government. Be sure each section is labeled and the characteristics named. Minimum size 8 ½ x 14 inches and must be in color.

#6 – TEACH -            Using the lesson plan format supplied by the teacher, create a lesson about one form of government and teach it to the class. The lesson must include at least one overhead and one activity to be graded. Preparations must be approved before the lesson is taught.

#7 – EVALUATE -     In either written form or chart form, evaluate the positive and negative characteristics of either a communist or socialist form of government. Equal emphasis should be given for each view.

#8 – COMPARE -      In the method of your choice, compare and contrast either a parliamentary system to a presidential system or a theocracy to an absolute monarchy. Include characteristics, origins, and present day countries with these forms in your report.

#9 – EXPLAIN -         In the method of your choice, explain the difference between a unitary and a federal system of government. Include characteristics, origins, and present day examples in your report.
