Geography Tools and Concepts Performance Task #1-A

 

Objectives: 1.01 and 1.02

 

To complete this task you will need to create a poster that includes a series of maps on one country ( of your choice ) located in Africa. The poster must be at least 8 ½ inches x 11 inches but no larger than 12 inches x 18 inches. The poster will be divided into 6 sections equal in size. Three of the sections are required and you may choose from the list provided for the other three sections.

 

Required sections:

 

1. This section must include both the common name and official name of your country as

    well as the following.

            A. Area in square miles.                        B. Description of topography

            C. Capital                                             D. Flag ( Drawn, cut out, or printed in color)

 

2. This section must have a political map of your country with bordering countries and/or

     bodies of water indicated as well as  the following:

 

A. lines of latitude and longitude should be drawn in and labeled.

B. the absolute location of the country’s capital should be given.

C. a compass rose accurately showing directions.

 

3. This section must have a picture ( drawn, cut out, or printed in color ) of a physical

     feature that has been either an asset or liability with an explanation of your reasoning.

 

Choose from the following for the three remaining sections:

 

1. A climate map of your country, color-coded with a key.

 

2. A vegetation map of your country, color-coded with a key.

 

3. A resources map of your country, color-coded with a key.

 

4. A physical map of your country, color-coded with a key and with rivers and lakes

    labeled.

 

5. An economic activity map of your country, color-coded with a key.

 

6. A population density map of your country, color-coded with a key.
