Notebook Item #2 NEVER THROW AWAY!!
SOCIAL STUDIES CURRENT EVENTS GUIDELINES 2007 - 2008
DIRECTIONS:
1. Read an article from a newspaper,
magazine, or Internet source that is related to any
country that we are studying this year
. Check in your book or with me to be
sure the
article concerns a country that is acceptable.
2. Either neatly cut the article from a newspaper or
magazine and mount it on a separate
sheet
of paper or print one from the computer. The captions under pictures are not
considered
to be articles.
3. Use the Stingray Current Events Form as a guide. Sources should
be underlined, titles of
articles
should be in quotation marks, and all numbered sections should be
answered in
complete
sentences with appropriate punctuation and capitalization.
4. The Current Event assignment must be written in blue or
black ink and will be completed in class.
5. Create a cover sheet for your report. The cover sheet should contain the following
information
in the following order:
A. Your name
B. Date
C. Subject and Class
Period
D. Title of the Article
- in quotation marks
E. Name of the
newspaper, magazine, or Internet source from which the article
came - underlined
6. Articles from publications like the Inquirer, the Globe,
National Geographic, or the Star
will
not be accepted. The school library has magazines
and newspapers that you can use.
Get the article copied
and return the newspaper or magazine to its correct location. Also,
the
Carteret County Library is a good place to find articles.
7. There will be one assignment due each 9 weeks. The dates are on the back of the form given
to the student.
8. A copy of this sheet will stay in the student’s notebook all year and it is also on my web
page under “Forms and Documents.”A pattern for a complete and correctly done Current Event
assignment is on the back of
the
sheet in your child’s notebook.
