Technology Standard Course of Study MCPS has one computer lab. The lab is used for direct computer instruction with the technology facilitator and the classroom teacher. Students practice basic computer skills through integrated computer activities to support theme studies in the classroom. There are 24 Windows based computers in this lab.
Each 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade classroom at MCPS has at least 3 computers. Two of the classroom computers are a combination of networked donated IBM computers running Windows 2000 and/or Dell PCs running Windows 2000 and one is a Dell computer running Windows XP. These computers are used for individual activities that integrate theme studies in the classroom and are also used for computer assisted instruction in math and reading. The computer assisted instruction uses the program Successmaker. To learn more about this program please visit: http://www.pearsonedtech.com/successmaker/ The kindergarten classrooms have two networked Dell computers and two non-networked IMAC computers. Standalone IMACs are also used in many 1st-3rd grade classrooms for skill and drill type learning programs and research using digital encyclopedias. Morehead City Primary also has two mobile workstations with a laptop, projector, and smartboard for classroom activities using the interactive whiteboards. We also use these workstations with Quizdom, an interactive remote response system. To learn more about interactive whiteboards or the Quizdom remote systems please visit:
