Star Students
Morehead City Primary School continues to use the school-wide Positive Behavior System or PBS. We use the rules that were sent home on the matrix at the beginning of the school year as a guide. Appropriate behavior is expected in all areas of the school. The matrix is posted in the cafeteria, library and other key areas as a reminder to the students. There is a link on the school webpage for PBS if you would like to review these expectations with your child. Students are striving to become "STARS"!
S Show respect
T Think safety
A Act responsibly
R Resolve problems
S Stay cooperative
Consequences
Students not following school/classroom rules will pull a ticket. Below is an explanation of this system.
No incidents=Great day!
1rst=Verbal warning
2nd=Warning (Take space in class for 10 minutes)
Bounce =15 minutes in another class, writing task, note home
Office =20 minutes, phone call to parents
Behavior is recorded daily in the planner. Green indicates no tickets pulled. If your child has a blue circle he/she has pulled 1 ticket. A yellow circle means they have pulled 2 tickets. Orange stand for 3 tickets and red for 4 that day. Behavior starts over each day.
Rewards
Students exhibiting positive behavior can be rewarded both school-wide and in the classroom. Students collect pretend money for following rules and completing homework on time. At the end of the week they are allowed to shop at the Star-mart in our classroom. We also put names in a jar in the classroom when students are "caught" being good. On Friday we pull one or more stars and those students are given a choice of free items from Star-mart.
Staff members can give any child a star for good behavior or making good choices at any time during the school day. Those stars will be filled out by the child and placed in a jar in the office. Names are drawn on Friday and the winner will receive a special award and will have their picture made with other Stars of the Week.
Every week we will pick a student who has set a good example to be our Star of the Week in the classroom. They will get to put up the All About Me page they filled out about themselves. That student receives special privileges in the classroom.
