Christmas in Germany
Frohliche Weihnachten!
(This means Merry Christmas in German).

In Germany they start celebrating Christmas on December 6 and their holiday ends on January 6.  December 6 is called St. Nicholas Day.  The main celebration of Christmas is on St. Nicholas Eve.  Children are allowed to stay up late, decorate the tree, go to church, sing carols and exchange family gifts.

The Christmas tree came to America from Germany.  Germans decorate their Christmas trees with glass ornaments, straw stars, little gingerbread men, wooden angels, and tinsel.

Every year the children of Germany write a Christmas wish list to St. Nicholas' helper, Christkindl.
