Well, you've studied NC and American History, math, health, science and English Language Arts.  What are you going to do with the information you have learned this year?  Create an interactive tour of our nation's capital and share it with others on the web!. 

This project is a comprehensive review of the 8th grade curriculum  prior to a trip to Washington DC.  Students will create an interactive web page to teach other students about the sites in and around the Washington DC area while incorporating their knowledge of all  subject areas. Students will become experts of the sites they researched and become the tour guides in Washington, DC.

Students will work in groups of two and sites are randomly drawn for research and creation of web page.  

(Students are asked to place all the information they gather about the project in a notebook to be incorporated into a scrapbook and used as a resource for their web page).

Students go to the media center and the coordinator reviews copyright, fair use, acceptable use polices, search strategies, criteria for selecting resources, and how to  credit sources. Students will take notes and write summarizations. Day 5 ELA
Information Skills
Review research strategies and introduce "So you have to do a Research Project" web site. Web resource for students
Day 6-20 All Subject Areas Students conduct research. They begin looking through digital photos taken by students during past trips to Washington. Remind students to cite their sources as they do their research. All questions under the Do you know, Fact or Fiction, and their report must be aligned with the NCSCOS.  
ELA and Math: Teachers monitor questions as they are developed to make sure all of the objectives in the above standards are addressed. Students will create a budget for their trip.
Social Studies teachers will cover their NCSOS during the entire project.  Students are responsible for picking put the information they will need to complete their web page. 
Health and PE:  Students identify the dietary guidelines for promoting health.  Students will keep a daily diet log in their journal and analyze their daily food intake to determine if their meeting the daily allowances. Students will determine if they are using as many calories as they are consuming by using caloric expenditure formula.  Students will monitor resting, exercise and recovery heart rates and graph the results. Students will perform a variety of contemporary and popular dances.  They will compare the similarities and differences. They will use their dancing skills during the Dinner Theater
Science: Students will identify, compare and contrast an animal from a past era with modern day animal.  This will help students be prepared when they go on their student create scavenger hunt or other activities that at the Aquarium

Day 17 Art Guest Speaker from the Arts Council will address: Art History, techniques, artists, artists style and what they will see when they go to the Art Museum. Students will identify an artist and create a picture using that artist's style.  Samples of artwork, paint, paper, brushes
