November has been one busy but fun month!  Our unit of study has been
The First Thanksgiving

During this unit we have talked about the Pilgrims and Indians but our main focus has been on comparing life long ago to today.

We began the month by talking about Thanksgiving and making a circle map of things we know about Thanksgiving.  Our original map had just a few basic ideas, but after reading a book about Thanksgiving, we were able to add many more such as Pilgrims, Indians and feast.

During our unit we took a trip to the Beaufort Historical Society to participate in Kindergarten Thanksgiving.  During our trip, students were able to see first hand how people lived many years ago.

In addition to learning about the Pilgrims and the First Thanksgiving, we have had fun doing many art projects and making lots of crafts.  Many of these projects can be seen on our fall bulletin board.

I got the idea for this board from another kindergarten site.

Here's a picture of our hallway bulletin board...

Our Family Turkey Projects were another big hit!  They were all so impressive.  We had turkeys decorated with everything from seeds and beans to cinnamon and candies.

We also made some other special turkeys at school. We made these using our feet and handprints.

We're sure these will be a keepsake for years to come!!

One of the other big activities this month was dyeing Indian vests.  The children enjoyed dyeing, decorating and wearing their vests.  Click on the link below to view pictures of us making our vests and pictures of our feast!

Happy Thanksgiving
