Carteret County Public School System's five Employees of the Year were announced at the system's annual Celebration of Excellence May 26. The event took place at the Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City and was designed to honor student academic achievements at the state and national level and outstanding staff accomplishments.

Each spring, employees from across the county are nominated by co-workers for recognition in five categories: Principal of the Year, Assistant Principal of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Certified Employee of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year. These nominees are interviewed and the five selected overall employees of the year are announced.

Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative partners with the school system to sponsor the Employee of the Year program.

The 2009-2010 Principal of the Year is April Lilley of Harkers Island Elementary School. The Assistant Principal of the Year is Joe Poletti of Newport Elementary School. The Teacher of the Year is Nancy Reynolds, an English teacher at West Carteret High School. The Certified Employee of the Year is Jenny Pilcher, a social worker at Beaufort Elementary School. The Classified Employee of the Year is Delores Alger, a technology assistant at Morehead City Primary School.
