Consider Items for Approval
Contract for White Oak Elementary School Gym Roof Replacement
Bond
Projects Manager Keith Maready recommended the Board award a contract
for the White Oak Elementary School gym roof replacement to Owens
Roofing, Inc., in the amount of $77,909 with no contingency. He noted
this was the low bid.
Contract
for White Oak Elementary School Gym HVAC
Mr. Maready recommended the board award a contract for the White Oak
Elementary School gym for installation of an HVAC system to Mech Works
in the amount of $137,397 plus a $2,500 contingency for a total of
$139,887.
Dr. Rick Luettich made the motion to approve the two contract
recommendations as presented regarding the White Oak Elementary School
gym.
June Fulcher provided the second and all Board members voted aye.
These two recommendations will now be presented to the Carteret County
Board of Commissioners.
Mr. Maready said work would likely start on the White Oak Elementary gym
roof by mid-November and be completed within a month. He said the HVAC
work would begin in early November.
After the motion and second were made, there was discussion and then the
Board voted 6-0 to approve the two contract recommendations for White
Oak Elementary gym as presented.
Receive Bond Projects Update
Mr. Maready updated the Board on the following bond projects:
The HVAC system in the fifth grade wing at Newport Elementary is
complete.
Bids for the window replacement projects at East Carteret High School,
and for doors renovations and toilet partition replacement throughout
the school system are being received. Mr. Maready will have these
contracts ready within a month.
Roof replacement projects at Beaufort Middle and Broad Creek Middle are
in progress. The Beaufort Middle project is scheduled for completion in
February 2007 and the Broad Creek Middle project is scheduled for
completion in April 2007.
The roofing engineer is continuing the design study for roof replacement
at East Carteret High and Harkers Island Elementary. Designs should be
complete by the end of the year.
The mechanical engineer work is 99 percent completed with the work on 11
of the 13 major HVAC renovation projects complete. Meetings are being
held for final review with engineers and school staff. The designs
should be complete on most of the projects by the end of the year, and
the bidding process should start in early 2007.
Based
on recent reviews:
Bogue Sound Elementary’s new classroom construction will be bid in mid
December with construction to start in early February and be completed
by August 2007.
East Carteret High’s new classroom building construction will be bid
by late February with construction to start in March and be completed by
February 2008.
Newport Elementary’s new classroom building will be ready to bid in
late April 2007 with construction to start in June and be completed in
April 2008.
White Oak Elementary’s new classroom building and renovations will be
bid by early April 2007 with construction to start in May and be
completed in March 2008.
The
design team projects a two-year process for the construction of the
Croatan High School auditorium. This is from design beginning to
construction completion. The original schedule projects the auditorium
to be completed in July 2009. The completion can be advanced to late
2008 if the work is started before the end of 2006.
Mrs. Neagle requested Dr. Lenker to discuss the timeline with Mr.
Maready and the Construction Committee.
Mr.
Maready also reported on the Qualified Zone Academy Bond work taking
place at Morehead City Elementary School. He noted the project is moving
forward with the HVAC and electrical work. A roof replacement
pre-construction meeting took place October 3 and work is scheduled to
start by November 1.
