School bond projects updated

Atlantic Elementary – The HVAC project is ongoing with acceptable quality and progress.

Bogue Sound Elementary – The HVAC renovation project is on schedule to be completed August 17. The classroom addition is on schedule to be substantially completed August 15 and ready for teachers to occupy August 20. Mr. Maready said the certificate of occupancy should be in hand August 24 and the addition ready for students and staff August 27. The remainder of the miscellaneous bond work on this campus will be completed once the new addition is finished.

Broad Creek Middle – A pre-bid conference for the HVAC project has taken place and the bid date is set for mid-August.

Croatan High Auditorium – Mr. Maready met with members of design team about the auditorium. The geotechnical investigation is completed and former schematic drawings are being reviewed.

East Carteret High – Contracts are prepared for the second phase of window replace with an expected start date in mid-September. The roofing project design should be completed in mid-August, with a bid date in mid-September.

Harkers Island Elementary – The HVAC project is ongoing with acceptable quality and progress. The roofing project is complete, and final inspections have taken place.

Morehead City Middle – The window replacement project is starting and bid package preparation should be finalized by mid-August. Provided market conditions are favorable, Mr. Maready hopes to receive bids September 5.

Morehead City Primary – Toilet partition replacement work is complete and final inspections will take place in the next week.

Newport Elementary – The HVAC and new construction projects at this school are in progress and will be ongoing for the next 11 months. He noted the first footing pour has been made and the next one is planned for the coming week. The detention pond is in place and the piping is being put in place. Mr. Maready said the permanent safety fence will be in place around the pond by the end of the week. A roofing re-bid conference will take place later in August.

Smyrna Elementary – The HVAC project is ongoing with acceptable quality and progress. Contracts are being prepared for the window replacement project with an expected start date in mid-September.

West Carteret High – The lighting project for the softball field is complete and final inspections have been conducted.

White Oak Elementary – The HVAC project is in the start-up phase and will be on-going for the next 12 months. The new construction project is on hold awaiting permit resolution. Mr. Maready projects this will be about a 30-day waiting period.
Transportation – Contracts have been awarded, drawings reviewed and approved with an expected start date of September 3.

Dr. Rick Luettich asked what percentage of the bond projects were currently under contract.
Finance Officer J. Ipock estimated that between $18.5 and $20 million in bond work was under contract.
Mr. Maready agreed and added that by the end of September he will have received bids on approximately another $8 million of the bond work.
