Brief update on bond projects provided by manager

Bond Projects Manager Keith Maready provided the following update to members of the Bond Advisory Committee on July 19, 2006:

Preliminary floor plan drawings have been received for bond project work at Bogue Sound Elementary, East Carteret High, White Oak Elementary and Newport Elementary. Principals and school administrator will review these drawings with the architect. The design for the new addition at Bogue Sound Elementary School will be complete and the project will be bid later this year. The design for the new building at East Carteret High should be completed by April 2007, and the new construction work should begin in June or July 2007. The design for the additional classrooms at Bogue Sound Elementary is smaller and less detailed than the design for the new building at East Carteret High.

Construction drawings have been received on most all of the heating ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) renovation projects listed in the bond. The review and design completion will occur by the end of the year and the projects will be bid out early next year.

The roof replacement at Beaufort Middle is expected to begin by mid August. The roof replacement at Broad Creek Middle will be bid August 3, 2006, and a recommendation to award the work will be made to the Board of Education August 8, 2006.

The scope of work and specifications are being prepared for window replacement and door renovations. Window replacement work is expected to begin this fall starting at East Carteret High. East Carteret High is the first school scheduled for window replacement. The window work at that school will be broken down into three major projects.

HVAC renovations in the administration area at Broad Creek Middle have started and will be complete prior to school starting. Work on the track and tennis court at West Carteret High is in progress and should be complete before school starts.
