Board Approves 2005-2006 School Year Calendar

Carteret County Board of Education members voted 5-1 in a December 14, 2004, evening meeting to approve Calendar Draft M as the calendar for school year 2005-2006. Board members Cathy Neagle, Bill Blair, David Carr, Al Hill and Dr. Rick Luettich voted aye to approve Calendar Draft M. Mike Hodges voted nay. June Fulcher was absent.

The Board members voted 5-1 to designate the makeup days for 2005-2006 in priority order as needed as follows: first semester – December 19, 20, 21 and January 24; and second semester – February 13, April 21, April 20, April 19, April 18. Board members Cathy Neagle, Bill Blair, David Carr, Al Hill and Dr. Rick Luettich voted aye to the designated makeup days as stated above. Mike Hodges voted nay. June Fulcher was absent.

In developing the calendar, House Bill 1464 had to be followed. That Bill stated the opening date for students could be no earlier than August 25 and the closing date for students could be no later than June 10. The school calendar must contain 10 vacation days, 10 holidays, 15 workdays and 180 student days.
