Distribution Center
Many organizations request to have publications and flyers distributed to students throughout the school year. These groups are involved with our county's young people and that is appreciated. However, the increasing number of requests to distribute items created a need to revise the policy.
Board of Education Policy 5210 - Distribution and Display of Non-School Materials states that as of July 1, 2012, publications / flyers cannot be distributed with students. The distribution of the items involved a great deal of staff time, taking those individuals away from their work. The decision to revise the policy was made in order to maintain an educational environment conducive to learning and to minimize intrusions upon instructional time.
The policy now allows for certain approved publications and flyers to be posted on the school system's website. Those requesting the display of items should go to www.carteretcountyschools.org to view Policy 5210 in its entirety. Below are a few highlights from the policy:
- Non-profit organizations that offer educational or recreational activities or programs for school-aged children, including but not limited to scouts, summer camps, and organized youth sports leagues can submit publications to the superintendent’s designee for consideration.
- A copy of the publication must be submitted to the superintendent’s designee at least 10 school days in advance of the display time. The publication must be submitted electronically as a pdf file, should be no more than 2 pages in length and should contain all the information needed by the viewer – such as dates, times, locations and contact information. The submission to the superintendent’s designee must include the name and phone number of the contact person, the dates of the intended display, if the display is intended for students, and the grade(s) of students for whom the display is intended.
- If approved, the publication will be posted on the right side of this site.
