When may I use the media
center?

The media center is open
Monday - Thursday 7:00 - 3:40
Friday
7:00 - 3:00
Occasionally these service hours may have to be slightly altered.
An announcement will be made in advance if there needs to be a change
in the hours of operation on a certain day.

A student may use the
media center before school and after school without having a Media
Center Pass.

A student must have a
Media
Center Pass to use the media center during
school hours, including their assigned Lunch period.
Are
there special rules I must follow in the media center?

Students are expected
to follow Croatan High School rules when they are in the media center.

All materials are to be
properly checked out before being taken from the media center.
How
can I learn what materials are in the media center?

Use the automated library
catalog which is called "Spectrum." You may access "Spectrum" in
your student folder on computers throughout the school.

before some of the call numbers indicate the item is located in a special
collection in the media center:

How
may I check materials out of the media center?

Materials are checked
out and in at the circulation counter.

All media center patrons
(users) have a number to use when checking materials out of the media center.
A student's media center number is the same as his/her food service number.
What
may I check out of the media center?
-
Non-fiction books
which are not in the reference collection and fictionbooks
have a two-week loan period and can be renewed for an additional two weeks
unless another patron has requested the book.

Reference books
are to be used in the media center, but may be checked out "Overnight"
to be returned by 7:45 the next morning. You must have permission
from the media coordinator to check out a book for "Overnight" loan.

Video cassettes
may be checked out by students to use for research. There is a one-week
loan on video cassettes.

Audio cassettes
may be checked out by students for a one-week loan period.
How
many items may I have checked out of the media center?

Students are allowed to
have three items checked out of the media center. Special permission
to have additional items checked out will be given to students who need
the materials for reserach purposes.
May
I check out magazines and newspapers from the media center?
-
Current issues of magazines
and newspapers are to be used in the media center. Special permission
must be given by the media coordinator for these items to be checked out
of the media center.

Back issues of magazines
may be checked out for three days.

Back issues of newspapers
will be given to patrons on a first come-first serve basis.
