HONORS EARTH SCIENCE

Grading Policies

A seven point scale is used school-wide for grading. All work is assessed with a grade or other acknowledgement. Currently the following categories are homework, graded work and quizzes and tests.

Homework                          20%

Graded work and quizzes    30%

Tests                                 50%

Project work will be assessed as a test grade. The amount of work involved will determine if the work will count as one or two test grades.

Expectations:

Students are expected to be in class on time and be prepared to actively participate in the days activities. Students should have all homework assignments completed before entering the classroom. Students arriving late to class will be asked to report to ALC for the class period. (Students sent out are counted absent for that class period) Students with unacceptable behavior will also be asked to report to ALC for the remainder of the class period. (Please refer to the student handbook for further explanation)

                                   Supplies :

Students are expected to have a loose leaf paper notebook, pencils or pens, their assigned text, workbook and any work that has been assigned for that day. Students should be prepared for class daily with expectations of accomplishing daily tasks that are presented to them. Any other supplies needed for project work will be requested at the time the project assignment is presented.

                                        EOC

Presently the Earth / Environmental Course is not tested by the State. Therefore, students my exempt the final exam if they meet the criteria for exam exemption. The exemption policy is located in the student handbook. The guidelines involve final semester average, attendance and conduct. Please refer to the handbook for further details.

Grade Updates:

The schedule for progress reports and report cards is listed in the student handbook and on the school calendar. Unless there is an interruption in the school calendar, there should not be any changes in those dates. Students should receive a progress report from each teacher via e-mail or hard copy.
