Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to Spanish class! This is going to be an exciting year, and to help make this as great a year as possible, I would like to outline my policies and expectations for our class. Please read, sign, and return the second page of this to me as soon as possible. Your child should keep this page of classroom expectations and grading policies in his/her notebook for future reference. My expectations are:
Violations of these rules will result in verbal warnings, parent contact/conferences, ALC referrals, etc.
Students are responsible for their own learning; a policy of ACADEMIC HONESTY will be closely followed. ***Using online translators as anything other than a dictionary is prohibited.***
Grading Policy:
93-100 A
92-85 B
84-77 C
70-76 D
69 – below F
Breakdown of percentages:
Class participation/Homework 25%
Quizzes/Dialogues 35%
Tests/Projects 40%
Final Exam *25% of semester grade (if the student IS NOT exempt)
Class Participation: It is ESSENTIAL to learning a foreign language. Although English will be used occasionally in class, we will strive for Spanish proficiency as much as possible. Research shows that the total immersion method is the most successful in learning a foreign language.
Homework:
I expect the ENTIRE assignment to be completed by the due date. I
give three grades for homework when checking for completion; 100 (complete
HW), 50 (for incomplete HW – at least half), and 0 (anything less than 50%
completed). I may also take up homework at random to check for accuracy.
After an absence, you have two days to contact me about make-up
work. If you do not contact me within that period, I have the right to
assign you a zero for the assignments missed. If there is no written assignment,
there is ALWAYS homework - STUDY! Constant study & review is critical
in mastering a foreign language. Habitual failure to complete homework will
be addressed with parental/guardian contact.
Quizzes: (Announced and unannounced) will be given on material that has been covered in class.
Tests/Projects: Tests will be given at the end of each chapter. Projects are occasionally given in place of chapter tests. Re-tests are not granted except under extenuating circumstances. If students as a whole do not perform well, corrections may be utilized when deemed appropriate by the teacher. Students that fail tests/projects may be required to stay after school for tutoring sessions.
Notebook:
Each student will need to purchase a 3-ring notebook for class. Active
participation, including note taking and homework completion is an integral part
of language learning. An organized, well-kept notebook is important in order to
keep up in this class.
Make-up Work: School-related activities (i.e. field trips or athletic events) shall not be counted as absences from class. Unless previously assigned, all make-up work (this includes CLASSWORK and HOMEWORK) must be completed within two days upon a student's return to school (unless special arrangements have been made). It is the responsibility of the STUDENT to ask for his/her make-up work. Please refer to my school webpage for make-up work or see me outside of class. IF YOU ARE ABSENT THE DAY OF A PREVIOUSLY ASSIGNED QUIZ OR TEST, be prepared to take it the day that you return!
*Late work WILL NOT be accepted unless determined otherwise by the teacher.
Extra Help/Tutoring/Make-up work: Although I am a first responder for athletics, I will be available for after school help on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursday afternoons (from 3-3:45) or by appointment. Lunch time is also a possibility, just ask!

faster than anything. ¡Gracias!
