AP Literature and Composition Summer Reading Assignment
Dear AP Literature Students
,
If you are reading this letter, it is my expectation that all of the following statements apply to you:
I find it
perplexing when students complain about an Honors or AP class’s workload when they’ve voluntarily signed up for it, knowing that it will be an academic challenge. If the preceding statements do not apply to you, if you find yourself recoiling with intense disgust at any one of them, if you just threw up a little in your mouth, then I strongly suggest you reconsider your enrollment in this class.
Still reading? Good. Please note that all students who are or will be registered for AP Literature in the spring of 2009 are required to have completed the summer reading assignment before the first day of class. On that day, you will turn in the accompanying assignment; late assignments will not be accepted. I know what you’re thinking: "How is it summer reading if the class doesn’t begin until the winter of 2009?" You are astute; I ’ll give you that. To answer your question, by summer reading assignment, I simply mean you must have read the novel and completed the accompanying assignment before the first day of class. It doesn’t matter to me whether you do it over the summer or perhaps over Christmas break. In fact, it might be a good idea to wait so it will be fresh in your head when the AP class begins.
Please purchase the following book. Be sure that you’re buying the same edition. The texts are available at Amazon.com, and most local bookstores will order them for you upon request.
