Description:
Algebra II is a course designed to expand on previously learned skills in Algebra I. Success in the fast paced course will require outside preparation and abstract thinking skills. We will be covering the following topics: functions, polynomials, rational expressions, complex numbers, systems of equations and inequalities, matrices, and logarithms. TI-83 plus calculators or higher are recommended for this course. Calculators will be available in class, but not for home use. I would encourage your child to have access to one at home. There is a state mandated End-of-Course Exam that will count 25% of the final grade.
Class Expectations
1. NO eating or drinking in class with the exception of water.
2. Be Prepared.
Bring all materials to class everyday.
3. Be polite.
Treat every person in the classroom with respect and dignity.
4. Pay attention.
Do not distract yourself or others from learning.
Listen actively, remain alert, and stay on task at all times.
5. Be Prompt.
Be in your seat and working when the bell rings.
Tardies are not permitted. The student will be sent to the student center.
Follow instructions the first time they are given.
Procedures:
1. Have your pencil sharpened and material ready before the bell.
2. Have your homework out and ready to be checked.
3. Speak one at a time and raise your hand to be acknowledged.
Behavior Plan
I will be using a personal behavior plan in the classroom this semester.
Make-up Work:
Obtaining all make-up work is the responsibility of the student. You will have one week from the date of the absence to make up the missed assignments. Make-up work will not be accepted past the one-week deadline. This includes all homework, class work, quizzes and tests. Students should get missed notes and assignments from the teacher or from another student.
Class Webpage:
Assignments will be up dated on a daily basis on my webpage. I will also attach a copy of the class notes each day as a .pdf document. You will need Adobe Reader to open these documents. Please check the webpage often for changes or reminders.
Grading Policy: I will be using a points system for grading.
Class average
Tests will count 60-100 points each.
Quizzes will count 20-30 points per chapter.
Homework will count 10-15 points per chapter.
Six weeks average will be as follows: class average………75%
Six weeks exam…..25%
Grades will be accessible on cougar grades and will be updated at least once a week (usually Friday afternoon).
Notebook Procedures:
All students will be required to keep a 1 or 2 inch 3-ring binder with 3 section dividers for the entire semester.
Section 1: Notes (in order by date)
Section 2: Class work/ Homework (in order by date)
Section 3: Quizzes/ Tests (in order by date)
Homework:
Homework assignments will be given daily with students being required to show all work. All assignments must be completed on loose-leaf notebook paper (unless other instruction is given). No torn out papers (spiral notebooks). I expect each student to complete their homework nightly. Each problem should be copied down and worked out completely. No work will receive a grade of no credit. I will not accept late work…homework. Students going on field trips or athletic events need to get the assignment ahead of time. All assignments are graded on the due date.
Bathroom Breaks:
Students should use the bathroom before and after class. Students will be allowed 2 bathroom passes each six weeks. If not used, each pass will result in one point added to the lowest test grade before averaging the exam. Students will not be permitted to use the bathroom during lecture time or during the last 30 minutes of class. Students will be required to sign out and in when leaving and returning from the bathroom.
