Attendance/Makeup
Work
- Regular attendance is expected in all classes.
- Students who miss a major test (announced
before the student’s absence) must have a valid reason for makeup, and the
makeup test will be given as soon as the student returns.
- Plan ahead for test dates.
The nature of makeup tests demands that they be challenging.
- If a student checks out early or arrives late,
he/she is still responsible for the next day’s assignment.
- Students are responsible for making up missed
work and turning it in within the allotted time (2 days; per CHS Handbook,
p.20)
- Plan to make up missed quizzes and test in my
room after school—arrive by 2:40.
- If a students is not in class for a test or
major assignment and is in the student center (ALC), the student must take
the test or do the assignment in ALC at that time.
Assignments/
Homework
·
Students
receive assignment sheets every two weeks. It
is their responsibility to copy assignments posted daily.
- Homework
is not accepted late. It is due at the beginning
of the class period. Major work has
ten points per day late deducted from the grade.
Homework is not always written work.
Students frequently have reading assignments.
I encourage students to read class notes on a daily basis.
Students receive handouts defining terms associated with nonfiction, the
short story, poetry, the epic, drama, and the novel. They are expected to
memorize the terms.
The
state-mandated exam has two sections. The
first part of the exam is editing compositions.
The second part is textual analysis.
Obviously, a student with an inadequate knowledge of literary terms will
not be able to analyze the selections.
The most helpful thing that you can do as a
parent is to encourage your child to frequently review both the literary terms
and composition/grammar notes
