Monday

Students will use10 vocabulary words currently being used in either their English class, or one of their academic classes and will write the words three times each, and give a synonym for each.

Tuesday

Students will use the words from Monday in sentences.

 

Wednesday:

Students use five vocabulary words from Monday and Tuesday in an original composition.

 

Thursday: Correcting grammar mistakes

Friday Journal topic: Discuss John Glenn and his circling of the earth 3 times in 1962.  John Glenn's space flight in 1962 was a very courageous act for that time. Write a paragraph or two about courage. Tell about something that you have done that you consider courageous. Or describe something courageous that you know someone has done.

Friday: 10th Grade Writing test practice & discuss the Brothers Grimm

Journal topic: Describe the plot of your favorite fairy tale or story.  Write as if you were a newspaper or television reporter.  Remember that reporters are supposed to answer the questions "Who, what, when where, why?"

Journal topic: What do you think makes a good teacher?  What are the qualities the good teachers in your life have shared? Take a moment and define a good teacher, then write an essay in which you present your definition and give examples.

Friday Journal topic: What are you expert at fixing? Can you patch a flat bicycle tire? Can you repair a torn hem or a loose button?  Can you glue broken pottery?  Select a repair job you know how to do well enough to explain to someone else.

Write a clear and concise set of instructions for this job.

Friday Journal Topic: To meditate means to think deeply, to contemplate in one's mind, to ponder or reflect.  Meditating is different from daydreaming.  Its purpose is usually personal growth and solemn reflection on oneself.  Do you ever meditate?  What kinds of things do you reflect upon?  If you don't meditate, why do you think some people do?  What would be some good things to think deeply about?
