NC REACH: New program for NC Adoptees and Former Foster Youth!  Financial assistance is available to pay for college and other services may be provided such as mentoring, care packages, and internships.  Eligible students are those who have completed secondary education and who were adopted from NC foster care.....on or after age 12 to age 18.  More information and resources can be found at www.ncreach.org.

IMPORTANT:
 The deadline for SAT and ACT scores to be received in the state office is 5:00 p.m. on November 22, 2010. They will not accept SAT or ACT scores after the deadline. According to published score reporting data, it is unlikely that scores from the October 10, 2010, SAT test or the September 11, 2010, ACT Plus Writing tests will arrive prior to the November 22, 2010, score acceptance deadline, UNLESS scores are printed from the College Board website and are initialed by the liaison counselor and received in the Teaching Fellows office by 5:00 p.m. on November 22, 2010.

September 3, 2010: Miss Eastern Carolina and Eastern Carolina's Outstanding Teen Pageant - Held 6:00 pm at the Ayden Arts and Recreation Center in downtown Ayden.  For an entry form and more information, contact Director Crystal Newby at 252-902-6040 or director@easterncarolinapageants.com   Date of contest Sept. 25th.  Pageant is a preliminary for Miss NC and Miss America.  Contestants compete in personal interview, talent, evening wear, physical fitness and an onstage interview.

September 7, 2010: Morehead-Cain Scholarship at UNC-Ch - Interested in a "free ride" to UNC?  Apply for this outstanding opportunity!  To be endorsed as CHS's candidate, see Ms. Stewart for application.  After the 7th, the nominating committee will meet and decide who the school will endorse.  If you are not interested in being considered as the school's nominee, but you are interested in applying for the scholarship, visit UNC's website for the application process.

September 17, 2010: Park Scholar at NCSU - If you are interested in the Park Scholarship at NCSU, submit a resume by Sept. 17th to Ms. Stewart.  A nominating committee will meet to consider the school's nominee; however, if you are still interested check out State's website about self nominations.

October 3, 2010: Wendy's Heisman Award - Seniors for 2010 - 2011 who are student athletes should apply.  You must have a "B" average, work hard, are dedicated, and have become role models to your school's underclassmen!  Seniors of the  2011 graduating class should go online, log in, and follow the instructions to begin. November 1, 2010: Prudential Spirit of Community Awards - Celebrate the spirit of volunteerism!!  If you take part in community service activities you are encouraged to apply for this honor.  Applications must be completed and turned in to Ms. Stewart by Nov. 1.  Go online at http://spirit.prudential.com or www.principals.org/spirit , complete the application, submit to Ms. Stewart and become eligible for the school nominee.  Winners receive $1000 or more, an engraved medallion, and a trip to Washington, DC.

January 10, 2011: Gates Millennium Scholars Program - Students eligible to be considered must: be African America, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American.  GPA  3.3 unweighted or have GED, demonstrated leadership abilities through community service or extracurricular activities, and meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.  Apply online at www.gmsp.org
