The mission of Croatan High School is to ensure that our students learn the skills necessary to become lifelong learners who are productive members of society.
Croatan High School, a North Carolina School of Distinction, is steeped in a tradition of academic excellence. The 800 students are challenged through the rigorous curricula taught by highly qualified teachers in a technology rich environment. Parent support for these high standards is unparalleled.
Nestled along the edge of the Croatan National Forest and overlooking Bogue Sound, the 90-acre campus hosts a water fresh pond, access to the sound and forest, and an abundance of wildlife in the adjacent areas, certainly an area conducive to academic challenges. In addition, the campus hosts athletic facilities for its 21 teams.
Small class sizes, highly trained teachers, motivated students, and involved parents create a climate at Croatan that permeates the school. As one enters the front door, it is obvious that the mission is education for all of the students. From the no nonsense approach in the classrooms to the boisterous support for the athletic teams, the students are exposed to high school life from a bygone era combined with the most advanced teaching methodologies and technological support.
Croatan utilizes semester block scheduling with four 90- minute classes per day. Students may earn eight units of credit per year.

Honors and AP courses are weighted according to the NC Standard Transcript. One extra quality point is added for each honors class and two for each AP class. Courses marked as BL, Curr. Asst., CA, and Occ. are courses taught in the Exceptional Children’s Department.
Ranking: Students are ranked at the end of each semester. Courses are weighted according to the NC Standard Transcript. All courses attempted are listed on the transcript and are used in determining class rank. LOC means loss of credit. The student has a passing grade but lost credit due to the attendance policy. LOC is averaged as 0 quality points. NC indicates a course that has been retaken for a better grade. The course with the lower grade receives the NC but is not counted in rank or GPA.
COURSE OFFERINGS: Advanced Placement is offered in Calculus, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, English III and IV, Government & Economics, European History and US History. Honors courses are offered in all grade levels in English, math, science, social studies and in level 3 and 4 foreign language classes.
