Croatan High School celebrated its inaugural year as a public high school in the 1998-1999 school year.  Our school opened with the purpose of relieving overcrowded conditions at West Carteret High School and to preempt population growth in the western end of Carteret County. The location is characterized by ninety acres of land between the Croatan National Forest and Bogue Sound Inter-coastal Waterway on state Highway 24.  Croatan initially enrolled five hundred twenty students in grades nine through eleven and over seven years has grown to an enrollment of about eight hundred.  The second year of operation saw the first class of seniors.  The mission of Croatan High School is to ensure that our students learn the skills necessary to become lifelong learners who are productive members of society.  To that end, Croatan has a comprehensive course offering which ranges from remedial through Advanced Placement courses.
