Character Education Plan Index

At Croatan High School, students are encouraged to demonstrate citizenship by displaying appropriate behavior in the classroom, hallways, and at extra-curricular activities.  Students are expected to be polite and courteous to staff members and peers.  And, students who demonstrate these traits are recognized in a monthly “Outstanding Cougars” ceremony.  Students are nominated by their teachers to receive this recognition and parents are invited to attend the ceremony to publicly recognize their accomplishments.

In addition, Croatan High School recognizes its outstanding students through BETA Club.  Students must have a grade point average of a minimum of 3.5, have outstanding character, and have completed a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service to the community.

Character education is also emphasized in the numerous extra-curricular activities available to students.  Students are only permitted to participate in these activities if they maintain passing grades and are compliant with the disciplinary policies at Croatan High School .

Students are required to return a signed internet policy to be gain computer access.  This policy requires students to commit to appropriate standards of usage on the internet and with the computer itself.  Students are also instructed in academic classes and in the Media Center concerning laws related to plagiarism.  Student work is submitted by computer to www.turnitin.com to determine if any part of their report is plagiarized.

At Croatan High School, students are encouraged to become responsible, productive citizens.  Students participate in peer tutoring as well as numerous fund raisers to secure monies for charitable organizations.  Visitors to CHS are noted for their positive comments concerning how polite, cooperative, and courteous they find our students.
