A.  Executive Summary

Introduction:

The School Improvement Plan for Croatan High School focuses on enhancing student performance through the use of a variety of data for self analysis.  This section represents an overview of student performance, student and community demographic data, school characteristics, and stakeholder perspectives on the quality of education at Croatan High School .

1.  Student Performance Data

Summary of Findings for School Year 2003-2004

SAT – Sixty-two percent (62%) of the senior class took the SAT in 2003-2004, down 9% from the previous year.  Of those testing 43% were males and 57% were females.  Both the number of males and females taking the test decreased by 9% from the previous year as well.  Males out scored Females by 20 points on the math section and by 1 point on the verbal section of the test. 

Croatan’s Math scores were 17 points higher than the national average, 28 points higher than the state average and 19 points higher than the county average, an increase over previous years.  Verbal scores also increased over previous years as well.  Our scores were 22 points higher than the national average, 31 points higher than the state average, and 22 points higher than the county average. 

The combined SAT average score for Croatan for the 2003-2004 school year was 1065, which is 39 points higher than the national average, 59 points higher than the state average, and 41 points higher than the county average. 

ACT – 2.5 % of the senior class took the ACT in 2003-2004, an increase of 1.5% from the previous year.  The composite score of 20.3 was a 3.3 point increase from the previous year.  Our composite score of 20.3 is .5 points lower than the national average (2003) and .4 points above the state average (2003).
