Part 5: Action Plans/Action Steps

Introduction

During the past year, the School Improvement Team developed action plans to address each of the three target area goals identified as priorities for our school improvement plan and designed them to support student learning.

Eight study groups were formed using the Carteret County strategic aims for student learning which have been identified in county-wide meetings with school staff members, administrators, and community members.  These aims are:

Croatan High School chose to focus their improvement goals on three of these aims:  High Student Performance and Achievement; Quality Teachers, Staff, and Administration; and Optimal Learning Environment.  The plan addresses the need to seek the necessary curriculum resources to more fully support the learning needs of our students.  Further, the plan focuses on improving our staff development programs by aligning them more directly with the desired results for student learning.  In addition, the plan has been designed to establish effective guidelines for Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors course selection to enhance and support the integrity of the courses.

Each action plan has been reviewed by the school improvement team to ensure that it is consistent with the school’s profile, beliefs and mission, desired results for student learning, and analysis of instructional and organizational effectiveness.  The school improvement team, following the initial review of the plan, provided copies of the plan to the faculty and staff for review and revision.  All comments and suggestions were reviewed and final revisions were completed.

The three action plans are outlined on the following pages.  The plan includes action steps, timelines, estimated resources and persons responsible for implementing these plans.
