Part
4: Analysis of Effectiveness
Introduction
This
section of the school improvement plan analyzes instructional and organizational
effectiveness. Using the NSSE’s Indicators of Schools of Quality survey as a model, the committee
administered a survey to staff members. All departments were required to give
specific input that responded to survey statements. In each area, the staff was
asked to provide evidence for their comments. Additional data from Desired
Results for Student Learning was also utilized in the final report.
From data collected, it was evident that strengths in one department were weaknesses in others. For example, Freshmen EOC classes are kept to a minimum of eighteen students while some classes may have as many as thirty students. Our students are challenged and encouraged to excel academically, yet in order to do that to their fullest potential, updated technologies must be in place along with instructional materials that are in alignment with the State’s Standard Course of Study. Professional development opportunities are made available, but funding continues to be an issue. Overall, our instructional strategies need improvement.
It
is further evidenced from the survey findings, that our greatest strengths are
identified as academic excellence of our students, maintaining a safe, orderly
environment and the activities that encourage community involvement.
In order to improve upon the strengths that are identified, areas of
weakness have to be addressed such as: adequate facilities to facilitate
learning, additional funding for professional development opportunities, cross
curricular planning time, increased parent/community involvement and a more
conscientious maintenance service to name a few.
Based
upon the analysis of instructional and organizational effectiveness, priority
should be placed upon the following areas:
*providing effective guidelines for advanced
placement (AP) and Honors course selection to enhance and support the integrity
of these courses.
*providing
the necessary curriculum resources and instructional materials to enhance
student performance and
*more
opportunities for professional development as well as staff interactions that
will adequately provide for student learning be made available.
