Part 2: Beliefs and Mission

Overview:  Narrative Description of the Process of

Defining the School’s Beliefs and Mission

During the 2004-2005 school year the Beliefs and Mission committee decided to review our goals and beliefs to see if they remained constant with those established previously in the 2002-2003 school year.  Originally the Croatan mission statement and six beliefs were established and agreed upon through collaborative discussions and surveys involving the faculty, staff, and community.  We again conducted a survey of the faculty, students, and community stakeholders to further appraise the validity of our beliefs and mission statements.  The teaching staff was surveyed and 44 surveys were returned  A representative sampling of the student body was surveyed through English classes and 192 forms were returned.  Parents and community members also returned surveys.  Each survey for the three groups included the six major beliefs and mission statement.  Respondents were asked to choose how strongly they felt about each of the six beliefs and the mission statement on a scale ranging from “Strongly Agree” to “Strongly Disagree”.  Committee members tallied results and found that there was acclamation of the previously developed belief and mission statements.

In a continued effort to ensure that all our students and staff members remain cognizant of Croatan’s mission, this statement is visible in each classroom and above the doors entering the school office.  Also, parents receive newsletters which include the mission statement and beliefs for our school.  Students, parent, and community members may view Croatan’s mission statement and its beliefs at the school website:    www.carteretcountyschools.org/chs
