This is a national club that requires
its members to keep high academic standards as well as perform community
service. Membership is by invitation and
students are inducted in the fall of each school year. Meetings are held
on the first Wednesday of each month at 2:40pm in the Media Center.

Book Club

Our club was created to promote
reading as a fun activity that can bring people together through
interesting discussions. We read, discuss, and laugh! We
are looking forward to our end of the year competition as well as
our appearance on the Oprah Show.
British
Club
(Sponsor: Jessica Robinson)
This club is a little Brit different! The
purpose is to explore the culture of the Britons. We sip tea on a weekly
basis and regularly discuss and participate in British events. Cheers!
FBLA
- Future Business Leaders of America
(Sponsor: Allison Parker)
An organization that develops leadership
skills and offers opportunities for students to compete with other members
across the region and state in business-related events.
FCA
- Fellowship of Christian Athletes
(Sponsor: Doug Sheaffer)
An organization for student athletes who
exemplify Christian ideals. Activities include visiting FCA chapters at
the university level, a local progressive dinner, and meeting at homes for
fellowship, food, and fun.

- Family, Careers, Community Leaders of America.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is
a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young
men and women become leaders and address important personal, family,
work and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education.
FFA

An organization with commitment to service,
leadership, career development and all areas of agriculture including
Environmental Science, Agricultural Engineering, Horticulture, Animal
Science, and Natural Resources.
Improv
Club
(Sponsor: Lacey Horner)
This club meets every other Friday to engage in improvisational comedy games. Members enjoy a healthy,
friendly, constructive environment to relax and have fun. All students are
welcome to attend. Previous comedy experience is not necessary. Please
drop by and join in.
Interact
Club
(Sponsors: Sarah Lyon)
The Interact Club is sponsored by the
Newport Rotary Club. Members are involved in service projects to benefit
our school, community, state, country, and world.
Math
Team
The math team is made up of the top
Geometry, Algebra II, and Calculus students in our school. In January,
these teams begin after-school study sessions to prepare for the
competition. The contest is sponsored by ECU and takes place on their
campus. Private and public schools from the surrounding counties
participate and are classified by the size of the school. Students compete
for both individual and team awards.
National
Art Honor Society

This program is specifically for
students in grades 10-12, for the purpose of recognizing students who have
shown an outstanding ability in art. The NAHS strives to aid members in
working toward the attainment of the highest standards in art areas, and
to bring art education to the attention of the school and community. CHS
is one of 1961 chapters. Students receive the NAHS News, a paper published
twice a year with reports of chapter activities, art history, student
drawings, art careers, photographs, scholarships, and general information.
Member dues are $10.00.
National
Technical Honor Society

The National Technical Honor Society is a
national association that recognizes outstanding students in career and
technical education. Membership is by invitation and the induction
ceremony takes place during February which is National Career and
Technical Education Month. Members must have an overall 3.0 average,
take at least four career and technical education classes and have a
3.25 in those four classes, exhibit good behavior, and be a member of
one of the career and technical student organizations.

Photography
Club meets every other Wednesday in room 133. Mrs.
Kathy Campen, a professional photographer, will be working with us this
year and will share her expertise. She will be teaching technique and
composition. She has taught at Carteret Community College and has her own
studio. We will be able to get our photos developed where the pro's go and
she has some great ideas for projects. You do not need fancy equipment to
join. Hope to see you there!
Quiz
Bowl Team

An academic competition team composed of
all four grade levels. The Quiz Bowl Team meets every Tuesdays in the Media
Center from 2:45pm - 3:30pm.

The SGA consists of up to 16 students who
work to provide for the student body. In cooperation with their sponsor
and school principal, they strive to create a school environment that
encourages everyone to become involved in campus activities. Several
projects throughout the year enable SGA to fund class picnics, provide for
disadvantaged families, and conduct school-wide food drives.
SkillsUSA

SkillsUSA is an applied method of
instruction for preparing American's high performance workers in public
career and technical programs. It provides quality education experiences
for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character
development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes
and communication skills. It emphasizes total quality at work: high
ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education, and pride
in the dignity of work. SkillsUSA also promotes understanding of the
free-enterprise system and involvement in community service.
Writers'
Guild

Writers' Guild is a lively group of
young adults who thrive on writing creatively! Students meet every
Tuesday afternoon in Room 706 to share their works, to critique each
other's epistles (honestly), and to encourage their budding desires to
place pen to paper. Some meetings include refreshments other than the
powerful use of words!
