Who: Mat Bottoms, Principal, Croatan High School

Where are you from? I was raised in Wilson, NC.

Where did you go to High School? I attended Fike High School.

Where did you go to college? I graduated from ECU in 1980 with a degree in Music Education and then received my masters in Administration and Supervision in 1993.

What did you do after college? I taught band at WCHS from 1981 until 1994 and simultaneously taught band at MCMS from 1981 until 1991.

When did you become a principal? I was an assistant principal at WCHS from 1995 until 1998 and then came to Croatan in 1998 (inaugural year) as principal.

Do you have any advice for the students? Yes, live by the poem "If".

What are your hobbies and interests? I enjoy cabinet and furniture making, water sports, cruising on my motorcycle, corvettes and spending time with my family.

Tell us about your family. I am married to Gail, who teaches math at WCHS and I have two children; Hayden, a student at Duke University and Tyler, a graduate of UNC-CH.
