Ms. Couser's 3rd Grade Class

Homework and Agenda Policy

Third grade can become a difficult transition for many students. In order to make this transition as easy as possible for all students, we will adhere to the following homework and agenda policy.  The homework will be used as a practice of the concepts we are learning in the classroom.  Your student will be expected to write his/her own homework assignments in their agenda daily.  It is the responsibility of the student to get this signed nightly by their parent or guardian, and to bring it back the next day.  You initialing the agenda nightly ensures that you are aware of your child’s homework expectations.  There is also a place where you or I may put comments.  I will sign it daily to confirm that I have seen it and noted if homework was completed for the previous night.  In this way, we can communicate daily to meet the needs of your child.

It is also the student’s responsibility to complete their homework assignments on a daily basis.  I encourage them to have you double-check it or to ask you for help when in need.  Homework will be collected and checked every day.  It is also your child’s responsibility to turn in their assignments first thing in the morning, or it is considered late.

Each child is responsible for copying their assignments down in their H.W. Planner. Assignments vary according to the needs of the child so please do not rely on another child's assignment to be the same as your child's. Please contact me if there are any questions. I'll be glad to help!!

Super Stars Math

On Fridays a SUPERSTARS III worksheet will be distributed to each child in our classroom.  Each problem in the set is ranked according to its level of difficulty. As the number of the stars increase, so do the level of difficulty and the earned stars to be awarded.

Your role in SUPERSTARS III is to encourage and facilitate problem solving.  Feel free to offer guidance toward certain strategies, to read the problems to your child, but please, do not give them the answers. In order for this program to be effective, the students must work independently. The thinking must be their own!

It is normal for a student not to be able to complete every problem on every worksheet. Remember, no student is expected to know the answer to every problem but each child must complete problems with one and two stars next to it. A total of 50 stars, 100 stars, and then 200 stars will be awarded from the classroom teacher for their efforts.

Thank you for allowing your child to embark upon this mathematical adventure; the rewards should last a lifetime!
