| 5th Grade PAW students have been studying Egypt. We started off the semester making pyramids out of paper, creating a cartouche of our names in Hieroglyphics, and mummifying a chicken. Once the mummification process was started, students made a sarcophagus (Egyptian Coffin) out of clay. | |

After students finished their Sarcophagus, we did a modified burial ritual for our Chickens and King "Cluck." |

 Students put on gloves and removed the drumstick from the salt and baking soda mixture. |
 Carolyn displays her chicken. |
 They wiped off some of the salt and then rubbed olive oil on the drumstick. |
 Next, we sprinkled each leg with cinnamon and sage. |
 Students used cotton gauze to wrap their "mummy." |
 Then we placed the "mummy" in the Sarcophagus. |
