2009/2010
Supply List
- 13- pocket folders with brads for social studies and
science homework, preferably red, blue, green and yellow (there is a reason
for the colors!).
- One zippered pencil bag that will clip in notebook
- Four large book covers or you may cover with paper. We
feel that if you are going to cover your child's book with paper that brown
paper bags are the best.
- One pack colored pencils (12 pack) PLEASE
- One glue stick
- Regular notebook paper (Please no spiral book
paper, ragged edges are messy.)
- Pack of 20 pencils- of
GOOD No. 2 pencils. –
If
you purchase mechanical pencils, make sure they are disposable so they will
not have to worry about lead. If you rather have wooden pencils, do NOT
purchase synthetic wood, pencils wrapped in paper and glitter gum
up. They destroy pencil sharpeners.
- 1 pack of “Pink Pearl” Erasers
- 2 - 1 ½” soft sided 3 ring notebooks.
- 1 - 2 inch, 3 ring binder
Math Class
-
The
following supplies will be needed for Mr. Kimel’s math class
prior to the first day of school.
It is imperative your child comes to class
prepared.
-
Ø
A
high quality three subject
spiral notebook with pockets to
insert loose paper (the three subject divisions will be one for
notes, and one for classroom work for each of the first two 9-week terms
- another notebook will likely be needed for the second semester).
I strongly recommend and
prefer the 3-subject spine
guard notebook from Staples, which is available for $6.29.
I will ask them to stock up, but I advise trying to get it before
school gets too close and they have a run on supplies.
Please do not buy a
cheap notebook – it will just fall apart.
This notebook will rarely go home with the students, but they
will use virtually everyday in class.
Ø
Pencils:
Please get an ample supply of pencils and replenish regularly.
I suggest inexpensive mechanical pencils.
If your child prefers regular pencils, please buy good ones – often with
the cheap ones the lead is not
centered, and they will not sharpen properly.
(Note: There will be no pencil
sharpening permitted during class – it is a huge disruption and waste of
time – so your child needs to come to class with plenty of sharpened
pencils, or several mechanical ones).
Ø
Pencil
Sharpener:
If your
child prefers to use a regular versus a mechanical pencil.
Pencils should be sharpened the night before.
Ø
Paper:
Some extra loose-leaf paper, which they can store in a pocket of
their notebook.
Ø
Calculator:
We have calculators in the classroom, but they are not allowed to go
home with the students. Your
child will need a
Texas
Instruments TI-34 Explorer Plus model.
This is what we use in class, and familiarity is critical – so the
same type should be used in and outside the classroom.
I believe this model is available at either Staples or Wal-Mart.
You can also likely buy from Amazon or other online locations.
students will need to purchase a
TI-34 II calculator or TI-73 Explorer calculator
Optional Items:
1 Box of quart size zip lock bags
1 box cornstarch for science
1 box Kleenex
To save your money! Ink
pens, gel pens, or erasable pens are not used in the 6th grade. We
do not allow the use of these items because they; can become a distraction.
Information
Check the school
calendar often for the latest school and 6th grade information.
-
There will be an orientation for 6th
graders and new students on August 21, 2009 (Subject to change). This will begin in BMS’s gym
at 9:00 A. M. We hope that you and your parents will attend!!
-
If you have any questions about the 6th grade
supply list, please ask before you buy. We do not want you to buy items
that you don't need. (School # 728-4520)
-
FYI –If you purchase your child a book bag (back
pack), make sure it is small. Our lockers are relatively small and students
have to fit their books, lunch, PE bag and their back pack into a small
space.
