Mandatory Meeting June 9th for Parents and Students.

Departure Time is fast approaching!!  We will be meeting June 9th at 6:00 pm @BMS for final details and updates.  All of you received packets and info directly from World Strides last week with hotel info and flight info.

Please bring medical insurance cards to the meeting if you did not have those at the last meeting.  Each child and parents have a medical release form that has to be filled out and turned in at the meeting.  Some of you have already competed this.  If you are not sure bring the information with you!

Each child must complete a waiver packet for activities at the kayaking facility, dolphin facility, and snorkeling facility.

Please make sure you have a parent present with pertinent information.  Thank you!!!

I have luggage tags and Id badges from Worldstrides that identifies them as part of the educational group that I will hand out at the meeting.  Thank you!!

See you June 9th!!!  We changed the meeting date because of exams at ECHS next week.

World Strides Update
5/11

All activities are included and you should have waivers for the dolphin swim (should have two waivers), Florida Bay Outfitters, Turtle Hospital, and snorkeling.

All meals are included starting with dinner on the first day and ending with dinner on the last day.  The only money the students should need is for souvenirs.

Tipping:  WorldStrides does include a tip for the bus drivers and Course Leaders in their contract, but a lot of groups do like to tip a little extra.  This is entirely up to you, but if you decide you would like to tip, I would let the parents and students know in advance.  (A lot of teachers will collect a dollar or two from each student.)

The May meeting will be on May 1st and 9am @ BMS.

It was originally on the website for 6:00. We will need more time for presentations.   I would like to serve pizzas for the group.  If you guys would bring drinks and other snacks, we will eat, conduct business (view tentative itinerary), and view presentations.  We should be out by 3:00 at the latest!

I received tentative information from World Strides yesterday.  I have flight numbers, times, hotel listings, etc.  in hand.  There may be a few last minute changes but everything is coming together nicely.

They said all of our group is paid in full and they wished every group was as easy and good as you guys.  I told them I wish they were all like you guys too!!!!

We will be flying Southwest going - no checked baggage fee going down, but coming back we will be on American, I believe, which does have checked baggage fee.  Please pack light and be prepared for that fee if necessary.

I will pass out a suggested packing list to everyone  from the company.  Remember it will be summer - shorts, tees, tanks, bathing suits, and flip-flops are allowed.   I think shoes will take up the most room.  Wear your largest pair and heaviest pair, tennis shoes probably, pack rainbows, and flip flops.  This is not a dress to the nines or primping kind of trip.  The less you take the more space you will have for bringing something back.  Think minimal!!!  Also the less you take the less you have to keep track of and move.

Presentations are due after we eat and take care of business. BE READY!!!

Everyone needs to be present!!

Happy Holidays!!  and Merry Christmas to each and everyone of you and your families!!!!

Turn in a COPY of ButterBraids forms to Ann Nyberg by Monday, November 9 so that she can tally up how many to order.
She has to call the order in by Nov. 10th.
Pick up day will be on Nov. 17th at BMS from 3-5.

Ann Nyberg

Please see Mrs. Nyberg for your Butterbraid information packet at the Motorcycle Fund Raiser this Saturday.

Butterbraid info:

1.  The order forms are being mailed to my house and I will get them to the parents from there.
2.  Due date will be November 6th.  All orders must be placed by then.
3.  Ann Nyberg will need a copy of all order forms from each parent by Nov. 8th so that I can call in the complete order by Nov. 10th.  Parents will need to keep the origional for distribution.
4.  Each child is responsible for their own orders and money.  The suggestion was that for every Butterbraid that is sold, the check is made out to that child's parent (since we don't have an organization per say). Of course cash is always good. The cost of each Butterbraid is $12.00, but $5.00 from each sale will go to the child's cost of the trip.  Therefore, each parent must write a check back to Butterbraid for the total number of braids sold times $7.00.  For example if your child sells 10 Butterbraids, they keep $50.00 and I write a check to Butterbraids for $70.00.  This was the easiest way to handle this.
5.  On Nov. 17th each parent is responsible for being at the BMS cafeteria to pick up their order.

If this is confusing or you have any questions, call me at 241-4053

We need to meet and talk about the upcoming Motorcycle fundraiser, Oct. 18.  I hope you have seen some of the signs up already.  I hope you all had a great summer and an even better opening to school.  Things at BMS have been very busy with the new schedules.

I would like to schedule a meeting for Monday afternoon at 5:00 if possible at BMS cafeteria.  I hope you do not mind, but that is the easiest for me at this time.  My father is getting ready for major surgery and I am trying to keep things simple.  Please try to be present at the meeting.

I do not think it will last longer than 30 to 45 minutes.  Marti Stel has already gotten a long list of prizes from local businesses showing their support.  We need at least ten students working that day.  I hope you will all be there!  Remember the money will be split between those working hours at this event.

All of your accounts are up to date and current - Thank you for being a great group!

Thank you again!  I sincerely hope to see each of you there and hope you are all loving high school.  I miss you all!!  This years group is wonderful too.

OH Yeah-  THANKS for the wonderful present in our work room - those of you who helped!!!

Summer Fundraiser

It’s almost summertime, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop fundraising! The Gift of Education Letter is a great way for students to fundraise by themselves over the summer. The Gift of Education relies on small gift donations from students’ friends, family members, and local organizations. Have your students go to www.worldstrides.org/gift to customize their own letter and start this fun summer project!

Turn off your computer

The head of the world's most popular search engine recently urged college graduates to step away from the virtual world and make human connections. Speaking at the University of Pennsylvania's commencement, Google chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt told about 6,000 graduates that they need to find out what is most important to them by living analog for a while. "Turn off your computer. You're actually going to have to turn off your phone and discover all that is human around us," Schmidt said.

Parents, please see Mrs. Davis for the spreadsheet phone# and email addresses of participates that are going on the trip. This list will help those in charge of fund raisers contact you. We don't want to send them out through the Internet.

Non-school sponsored trip.

This is a non-school sponsored trip.  This trip is organized by a school employee acting as an independent agent, without the sponsorship of the school or school system. If an employee of the school system acts as an independent agent and plans a non-school sponsored trip involving school students, the employee must inform parents and students that the trip is not sponsored by the school system and that the school system and school officials assume no responsibility or liability for the trip.
