Why Go?
Educational value
and reasons for taking this field trip:
1.
Experiencing a different education system.
Students will see firsthand the differences the education systems. They
will visit Rastrick High School with their host student and actually
attend and participate in the subjects.
2.
Live the history and geography.
We are only exposed to history that is a little over 200 years. Our
students visit places that are over thousands of years:
Edinburgh, York, Cathedrals, The
Roman wall, English canals, and Viking museum.
3.
Ambassadors.
Our students will be able to serve as ambassadors for our school, town,
state and country, as they introduce others to a way of life they have
only heard about in tabloids, newspapers and television.
4.
Personal growth and development.
Through this experience our students will develop new skills, more
independence and self-confidence. This will be their first trip aboard
for must.
5.
Friends forever!
We will make new friends who will probably last a lifetime and who will
most likely invite you to visit them again.
This has already happened to me and many of the students who have
already experienced the UK/BMS connection since 2000.
6.
New Perspective on World Affairs.
Increase their understanding of the world and our society months before
we leave for the UK. Students will be asked about the UK’s economy,
current, and historical events.
All information will be posted on the Beaufort Middle School
website. Hopefully, our students will gain a broader understanding of,
and appreciation for, the United States, its way of life, and its role
in international affairs.
7.
Language immersion.
Even though they speak English, there are many vocabulary words that are
different. Boot for trunk of a car, etc.
For a short time, our students will undergo complete submergence
into another culture.
My hope is this teaches our students invaluable lessons about the
diversity and complexity of the world and that this International
experience will help them broaden your horizons.
