Parent Question:

What type of money does our child need to take to Europe?

There isn't one correct answer, but here is some information that may help you make that decision. Click on unlined words for links to more information.

1. Pre-Paid Credit Cards

2. Charge Cards - Visa, MasterCard and American Express are okay.   Better know your child's spending habits before you give set them loose with a charge card.

3. Bank Cards - Some larger businesses honor Cirrus and Maestro bank cards but smaller shops don't know what they are.

3. Traveler's Cheques - Conversion rate is not good but if they are lost or stolen, you will be covered.

4. US dollars - Some places will let you use US dollars others will not. .

5. US dollars/British Pounds- Take US dollars and convert them to British Pounds (not Euro dollars )when the get there - Okay, but students will have to ask their host family to stop and get them converted at their bank, this may or not be inconvenient for the host family.

6. Convert US dollars to British Pound here before we go - This will be fine but maybe limit the amount to about $50 in actual cash.
