Fitness Testing

The State of North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has mandated that all schools implement a new PE curriculum called SPARK (Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids).  This new curriculum has its own fitness test called Fitness Gram.  There are no certificates or patches to give to students that "pass" the standards with this test.  This program is all about data which we will load on the computer and send to the State Department of Public Instruction.  They will then use this data to decide issues of curriculum for PE classes and get an idea of how fit the children of NC are, etc.  Therefore, the PE classes at Beaufort Elementary will no longer be using the Presidential/National Physical Fitness Test to test students.  We will only be using Fitness Gram, as will all schools in NC.  We will put the new standards on the PE website in the future (2009-2010 school year) so you can still work with your child(ren) on becoming as physically fit as possible.  If you have any questions about this change please feel free to drop us an e-mail, call us or come by and see us.  Thank You for your understanding during this change in testing/curriculum.
