What you need to know before you go
on the Metro

Would you believe there's a way to safely move millions of people over 55 miles an hour in the middle of an extremely large city and get them to their destination in time for work? The metro is the safest, cleanest and most reliable of the transports systems and is the best way to move a lot of people from place to place quickly. More than a third of the federal government workers ride it to work and millions of tourists ride the metro to the landmarks in the Nation’s Capital.

Imagine what it would be like to travel as fast as 59 miles an hour, while listening to music, reading the paper and talking on the cell phone.  Scary thought unless you are in the hands of the many experienced certified metro engineers that will take you to your destination safely.  The only thing you have to worry about is getting on and off at the right stops.  Even getting on and off the metro is safe because there are uniformed and plainclothes police officers that patrol the stations and parking lots to make sure you safely arrive to your destination.

Safety includes being able to breathe fresh air. By taking the metro, there is less air pollution and noise pollution from cars and busses making this a better place to breathe.   Most stations are either within walking distance or just a short drive from surrounding Washington areas.   Knowing you are helping to lower the number of there automobiles on the roads,  allows you can breathe a little easier.

How many people are using the metro?  Over 42 percent of those working the downtown area of Washington DC and parts of Arlington use the metro.   It is estimated that the metro serves 3.5 million people.  Can you imagine how many cars that would be if they didn't have the metro?

If you are in the metro transports area that consists of the DC area, the Maryland suburban area and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the best means of transportation to take is the metro. Even if you consider going to the Washington, DC area to work or just browse through the museums and monuments, without a doubt you must use the metro because it is the safest, cleanest and most reliable of the transport systems to move a lot of people quickly.
