What you need to now before you go! Photos What I learned!

What you need to know before you go
to the Arlington Cemetery.

Have you ever heard of Arlington National Cemetery?  Well I have ,and here are some interesting facts!  Hey ,did you know the cemetery covers 612 acres. there are over 250,000 veterans and their dependents  buried there.   Veterans from all the nation's war's are buried in the cemetery.

The cemetery was not always  612  acres.  It was once 1,100 acres and part of the Arlington Plantation owned by  Mary Ann Randolph, one of George Washington's relatives.  She married Lt.  Robert E.  Lee on June 30 ,1831.  They lived in the Arlington house  for 30 years.  The cemetery, although the most famous ,is the second-largest cemetery in the United States.  Nearly 4 million visitors pay  their  respects to our fallen heroes entombed at Arlington each year.  Long Island National Cemetery in Framingham,  N.Y., has mare than 300,000 gravesites.

Arlington has on  average , 20 funerals a day.  The flags are flown at half-staff, from one-half hour before the first funeral until one-haft hour after the last, each day.  Funerals  are normally conducted five days a week,  excluding  weekends.  There are veterans buried from the American Revolution through today.

I cannot wait for our trip to get there.  There are going to be so many interesting things and places to see.  I hope that you enjoyed my research on America's most sacred cemetery dedicated to her military dead.
