Culture and Climate Presentation- due Nov.19

 

Integrated Project on Climate

 

The Question

How does climate affect culture?

 

The Task

Develop a multimedia presentation for the class that will explain how the climate has affected your cultural region.

 

Guiding Questions

1. How has the geography of the area determined the climate in each case?

2. What myths and folklores have developed as a result of weather patterns?

3. What special customs of culture are related to climate?

4. How has climate affected choices in housing?

5. How has climate affected choices in clothing?

6. How has climate affected a celebration of holidays?

7. How has climate affected transportation?

8. How has climate affected communication with other cultures?

9. How has climate affected the production and preparation of food?

 

Specific Tasks

1. Collect myths, folktales, and folklore from your region that explains the weather or include its influence.

2. Display physical maps of your region that include latitude and longitude and important landforms.

3. Research and document weather data from your region.

4. Create or import drawings or models of basic housing designs.

5. Create sketches or import pictures of clothing worn in your region.

6. Find recipes for foods grown and prepared in your region.

7. Research and document customs, traditions and holidays influenced by weather and climate.

 

Process

1. In your group, read the instructions together.

2. Brainstorm all the problems you feel you will need to address.

3. Consult books, magazines, Internet, etc. to gain information to support your ideas and gain more ideas.

4. Share and combine your findings and decide how best to present them.

5. Each person should do something each day to prepare for the presentation.

6. Make your presentation and be ready to answer questions.

7. Participate fairly and honestly in the evaluation of the presentation of other groups, your groupmates, and yourself.

 

 

Group Responsibilities

1.       Research data and gather materials for presentation.

2.      Deliver a multimedia presentation that thoroughly explains the affect of climate on your culture region.

3.      Be prepared to answer questions.

 

 

Individual Responsibilities

1.       Maintain a personal daily log of what you did each day, the amount of work found, where you worked and a summary of information found. Log will be turned in.

2.      Complete a bibliography for all sources. You must list at least four sources.

3.      Be responsible for doing your fair share  of the work to the best of your ability.

4.      Be a positive part of the group.

5.       Complete evaluations.

The Presentation

1.       You must cover all the guiding questions and specific tasks in your presentation.

2.      You may include music and video in your presentation.

3.      Each group member must participate equally.

4.      Make your presentation creative, interesting and thorough.
