The State of Franklin
NC had several counties
west of the mountains, by 1783.
The settlers in those counties wanted to be separated from the rest of NC.
The
Cession Act of 1784 helped the westerners. A meeting was held in
Jonesborough in August 1784. NC was criticized for ignoring westerners
interests. A military district was set up in the western counties.
John Sevier was the brigadier general.
At the December convention, a state constitution was made. In March 1785, John Sevier was elected governor of "The State of Franklin".
The state of Franklin started falling apart. 1789 was the end of the state of Franklin.
On June 1, 1796, a bigger land territory west of NC, was named Tennessee. It was the 16th state to the United States of America.
